Textile + Printmaking at California College of the Arts.
One-week summer Middle School YASP class. 

2024 – Now
Risograph 1 & Certification Class at SFCB

Risograph Certificate Class was designed and implemented to certify students to rent time on the machine alone. During the Certificate Class, printing and usage of the machine is reviewed, students learn Spectrolite software and then must pass a technical test.

2023
Monotype Experiments at SFCB
Built and taught a monotype class that utilized the Center’s Vandercook presses for monotype techniques, including additive, reductive, and trace techniques with brushes, brayers and other objects. The use of stencils for primary or secondary layers was also explored.

Summer 2023
Screenprint Atelier at California College of the Arts. Adapted and taught this 4-day summer workshop for high school students. The course covered the basics of emulsion-based screenprinting from hand-drawn separations. Students learned to print on fabric as well as paper, and completed projects including zines, stickers, t-shirts, and tote bags.

2018 – 2020; 2022
Introduction to the Risograph at San Francisco Center for the Book
Built and taught a class that utlizied SFCB’s GR3710 Risograph. Students were shown how to use the Risograph, and were able to complete a 2-color 11” x 17” poster, at an edition of 30.

Risograph Project Lab at SFCB
Students who had completed the Introduction to the Risograph class were eligible to spend a day in the studio. I conducted one-on-one time with each student and helped them create individual projects including zines and posters.

Spring 2017 – Spring 2020
Built and taught Academy of Art University’s Zines: Techniques for Communication and Expression class. The course covered the history of zines and Xerox art, multiple types of book structures, and utilized a Risograph printer. Students created a variety of zines with different structures, as well as developing content.
There’s even a stop-motion video to advertise the class made by me and Megan Adie.

Summer 2015, 2017, and 2019
Taught the book arts half of Academy of Art University’s Printmaking/Book Arts Study Abroad summer course in Florence, Italy. The class met three days a week in the studio at SRISA to learn book and box structures, and spent one day a week with the Painting department on location in various hilltop towns, researching and sketching ideas.

Jan 2007 – present
Faculty teaching: Intro to Printmaking (survey class), Silkscreen 1 & 2, Book Arts 1 & 2, Monotype, and Advanced Projects at Academy of Art University (SF). Class sizes ranged from 8 – 18 students, over 15 weeks (1 day/6 hours) or 7.5 weeks (2 days/6 hours per day) for summer semester. Followed class outlines and curriculum, but created my own content for demonstrations and often revised handouts. Onsite classes often covered 1-2 demonstrations per class, student work time, and critiques. Taught online classes, which were already built including videos and text instructions. Facilitated class discussions, worked individually with students, and critiqued assignments. Re-built both online classes Intro to Printmaking and Silkscreen to update videos, revise technology, and refine curriculum.

Sept 2006 – May 2010
Workshop instructor, Academy of Art University (SF). 3-hour workshops ran a couple times a week to provide support to students taking any level of Printmaking or Book Arts class. Summer Art Experience instructor for high school level class in Printmaking, focused on relief and screenprint techniques.

Sept 2006 – Dec 2007
Screenprinting instructor at Mission Grafica. I taught a 3-hour class once a week. Adult students were able to drop-in and learn to print their image on paper or fabric.

Dec 2005
Taught “Wild Cards” Papercraft Workshop at Zeum Children’s Museum (SF) was a one-day class for young children. Students made cards focusing on simple pop-up techniques.
